DREAM Act Fails to Pass Cloture Vote

It was a small step for man, and a large step for some of our elected officials. The DREAM Act cloture vote did not get enough votes to pass. This will allow Senators who take the illegal immigration problem seriously to perhaps filibuster the DREAM Act when it comes around for a full official vote. However, therefore, please do note . . . it is just a small step. The DREAM Act will come back, and if there are just a few minor amendments added that provide the tiniest amount of border security it could easily pass.
Frank Sharry, the executive director of the National Immigration Forum, called the vote “a huge disappointment to immigrant communities and those seeking a solution to the dysfunctional immigration system in America.”
“We fear the result was a matter of politicians — particularly Republicans — not wanting to confront obstinate members of their own parties in order to let the majority’s will — and the people’s will — prevail.
The majority’s will? The people’s will? Maybe the majority of illegal immigrants . . .
It doesn’t matter how you spin a poll, the majority of legal U.S. citizens do not want what equates to basically unbridled amnesty for illegal immigrants, even if our weak-on-immigration President supports it.

I think that the Dream Act should happen because they are many teenagers out theire that are trying to be a better person and actually be somebody. Not all illegal imigrants are the same you should put yourself in theire shoe’s. SAy YES TO THE DREAM ACT gIVE those teenagers a chance they deserve it only GOD should judge not people.

Amy, thanks for your comments. You wrote the above comments from Region 19 Education Service Center serving El Paso and Hudspeth Counties in Texas, according to your IP address. Based on your grammar, I truly hope you are a student and not a teacher. It’s ironic that those two counties have one of the worst illegal immigration problems in U.S., but you want to give nearly all of them amnesty. Maybe you are an illegal immigrant going to an American school paid for by American tax payers?
Your argument is the same old tired liberal argument, “It’s for the children.” The unfortunate truth to the DREAM Act is that it’s not just for 16 - 18 year olds, it’s for any illegal alien up to the age of 30 that was here before they were 16. How do we prove they illegally crossed the border before they were 16? We can’t. So there will be a huge abuse of the DREAM Act, just like a huge abuse of our open borders, and it will give amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants under the age of 30. Then those people will sponsor their families which will cause millions of more illegal immigrants, no matter the crime they committed that we can’t prove, to become legal citizens. (It also doesn’t include a DNA test like France is trying to do, so we won’t even be able to prove that they’re family!)
It also gives federal grants and loans to illegal immigrants for education, which our legal foreign citizens can’t even get. Why should illegal aliens get better treatment than foreign citizens who followed the law to come to this great country?

admin - I have a relative who works for another Texas region education center. She can’t spell and she has a doctorate. She is also of the mentality that the rest of us - taxpayers - should pay to educate Mexico . . . her job depends on it. She no longer speaks to me because I am against all illegal immigration. She says I am a racist. I no longer care what she thinks because our country is in peril. Keep up the good fight.

Admin you are manipulating people with half of a story. You coincidently happen forgot that the Dream Act has security. Fraud, will get them jail time of up to 5 years and face deportation. They cannot tell lies and be covered by the Dream act you dim witted baboon. They need to prove they have been here five year prior to when the Act passes. A lie can’t prove it. Because their background must show that they have been in school, last I check a fake high school transcript will give then more jail time because its a crime of fraud. Even if they have a GED they would have been in school until they were old enough to take the exam. There is no loopholes that criminals can use successfully. The bill only applies to people who was here before they were 16 years old and was in the school system.
YOU MUST READ THE WHOLE STORY BEFORE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE BOOK PEOPLE. Does the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover” ring a bell. It should. Consider yourselves educated.
I guess this dim witted baboon realizes that illegal immigrants currently have fake ids and social security cards, which is also considered fraud, but that doesn’t stop them does it? Are they in jail or deported?
Nothing being manipulated here to show only half the story, but you obviously only want to see the half that helps illegals in this country.
I am looking at the whole thing. And I make LOGICAL decision that will help the ECONOMY. Fake IDs and Socials is a problem but it have nothing to do with the DREAM Act. I guess dim witted baboons can’t stay on topic. You tell me how fake IDs and Socials will affect the Dream act. They need their real Passport, Birth Certificate, school records (showing that they have been in the US before they were 16 and graduate Highschool) and good moral character.
Illegal Immigration in general:
Now, Fake IDs and Socials are a huge problem. To fix this we need technology and human resources. This will cost billions more than it will cost to give them a real IDs and Socials. Actually, it will cost nothing to give them real IDs and Socials. The fees they will have to pay will bring in revenue for the economy. Then from then on they will have to pay tax and social security (this can help solve the social security crisis). Thus benefiting the economy from a bad situation.
It is already proven that illegal immigrants cost the country more than they help the economy, but nice try.
Regarding illegal immigration in general and helping the economy, you couldn’t have that more backwards. I would bet that the amount of tax dollars spent to provide higher education and other handouts to just the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of participants in the Dream Act program would exceed any tax benefit received from giving them legal status. Many illegals with fake social security numbers are already paying the government, so your argument doesn’t stand up. Most importantly, if you are going to give real IDs to all illegal immigrants, the vast majority of illegal aliens would be in the lowest tax bracket and therefore pay little to none in taxes. The top 10% of the tax bracket would be paying for their “lack of taxes”, plus food stamps, welfare, unemployment, state aid, federal aid and many other liberal created handouts.
Regarding the Dream Act, the prescense of Fake IDs, real (but fraudulent) drivers licenses, and stolen social security numbers and cards are excellent examples of how illegal immigrants can break the law to get what they want. They can produce fake state and federal documents, that are really fraudlent, but they’re “legal” documents that would pass in front of a government official . . . how different is this from a fake passport, birth certificate or school records?
If they can come up with fake ids and ssn, don’t be such a dim witted baboon to think that they can’t come up with a few more documents to apply and be accepted for the Dream Act program. Due to the number of applicants, there is no way the government is going to be able to double check every little detail into their legal status and other requirements as you allude.
Get more free stuff from Americans? Try and try they will. They entered into this country as law breakers, and there’s no reason to stop now. Heck, if they can get a few more illegal documents, we’ll pay for them to go to college, give them amnesty and all the legal free handouts they want!
Should the Dream Act become a reality one day, it will be a Merry Christmas for all illegal aliens, and Americans will get a small lump of coal.
Well put together. But I never mention giving them welfare. And why in hell would allow them to stay if they are a burden and in poverty? If any law pass it should get them out while keeping those who will benefit the economy.
The DREAM Act is not for giving them all welfare and government grants. It allows them to get loans (which they have to pay back, yes with interest) and it is for people with at least a high school degree. People who can help the economy in the military or with at least an associate degree. It’s called economic growth which US needs to compete. Dim witted baboon you need to take a course in macro economics. The US economy runs mostly on services. Which these people can and probably gladly provide. Illegal immigration is still ILLEGAL. But this is going to change it from a weakness to strength.
Illegal Immigration in general.
A better reform that would help the economy is making illegals file back taxes (it will have to be self employed because they got no proof they work for any company etc.) for the years they lived in the us or claimed to have lived in the us. They must not claim to be in poverty and must show moral character and pay a fine for crossing Illegaly. Then we put them on a path to citizenship. Their back taxes and fine revenue shuld be used to build the fence ASAP and increase border security also to inforce ICE so this can never happen again.
This is how I think this controversy can be sloved in a beneficial way. But, reform must be done soon before more millions enter and becomes qualify.
It also offers federal grants which do not have to be paid back, but nice omission.
The biggest point you are missing here is that the DREAM ACT is a program to become a legal citizen. That’s right, a LEGAL citizen who would be eligible for welfare or any other government hand out program. A huge omission that screws up your logic.

Mass migration destroys countries.
Mass migration from Mexico is killing America. They know it. Our government officials obviously do not care. I am no racist and this has nothing to do with it being Mexico.
The mass destruction it is bringing in with the drugs, weapons and lack of interest to live, love and act as American citizens is heightening at such a fast rate our children and families are being broken and torn apart.
If you need a reminder of what America is, the laughter and values and simple joy we hold in our culture to this country just take a break and watch a few episodes of America’s Funniest Home Videos!
The Mexican culture, mentality, lifestyle and habits that has kept that country so degraded in filth and crime cannot be compared to American way of life. So for the mexicans that have understood this and come here legally and waited their turn for the chance, I don’t blame you. But that’s not whats happening anymore!
You don’t see Mexicans very often that speak, appreciate and get involved in American Volunteerism or any other productive American role in our society. It’s all about sucking up benefits and getting the drugs and weapons in here to destroy americans slowly but surely. It’s working, and our government is just watching it happen. They don’t care.
That waiting list has a purpose? All immigrations must be controlled In Any country. That’s how it is everywhere. Otherwise an entire country could be obliverated by a mass migration that brings in ovewhelming needs, or drugs, guns and other deadly means.
STOP MASS MIGRATION and get things back on track so we can help those that truely want to learn and live the american life and give back to its communities. Then maybe even be able to help our own in dire need. It is already going to take a long time to heal and try to recover the damages done by the drugs they haul in. Even if they did finally secure the borders properly. They refuse to use any resources for securing the borders in a way that works. They don’t care if the American way of life is left to be chewed and eaten by the wolfs in sheeps clothing. Our government disgusts me. I am sorry.
