We’re back . . . it’s always nice to take a break from politics for a little while. We also have several other political websites, which we’ll announce in the future, so it’s been tough to keep them all updated. If you are a blogger / writer / political junkie and interested in topics such as illegal immigration, global warming, taxes, national health care (and you have a conservative / libertarian mindset) please help us out!
We received a nice comment on our previous “Letter to Lugar” post from a reader who is a member of IFIRE, or Indiana Federation for Immigration Reform & Enforcement. They are an organization in Indiana that isĀ against illegal immigration. Their website and organization is very impressive and we’ll have talk more about them in the near future.
In the meantime, here is the response fromĀ Senator Richard Lugar regarding the email we sent him. Although he did not address all the points we brought up, nor do we agree with his overall position on illegal immigration, he did respond in a timely manner which was appreciated.

Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate knowing your thoughts about immigration reform and border security.
I share your support for increased border security and voted last year to pass the Secure Fence Act of 2006. This legislation authorizes the construction of approximately 700 miles of double-layered fencing at specified locations along the almost 2,000-mile southwest U.S. international border with Mexico.
In addition to improving border security, I believe that the status quo is not acceptable and that our immigration policies should be updated in a comprehensive way to provide some realistic resolution to the status of undocumented immigrants living in this country.
On June 28th, unable to bring debate to a close, Majority Leader Harry Reid pulled a bipartisan compromise immigration proposal from the Senate Floor. At this point, it is unclear if the Majority Leader will bring this measure back to the Floor for consideration.
Again, thank you for contacting me.
Sincerely,
Richard G. Lugar
United States Senator”

I received from the Senator’s good offices the exact same letter. It was nicely worded, but horribly superficial. I returned that letter to Lugar’s office, instructing his staffers not to send me anymore of those letters. When it comes to illegal immigration, The Senior Senator from Indiana has an extremely horrible record. According to numbersusa.com, Lugar has a D for his career record on immigration matters and a D MINUS for his recent voting record on immigration. I respect old Dick’s status as a Senior Senator, but I detest his voting record when it comes to illegal immigration.
Senator Lugar is unresponsive to his constituents. It’s pretty disheartening to have our own Senator working against us. Citizens of Indiana need to wake up!
