Here is the letter we sent to our local Republican Senator Richard Lugar regarding his vote for the amnesty bill. Unbelievably, our Democrat Senator Evan Bayh voted against it. It just goes to show you how even long time and important politicians have taken the exact opposite stance against illegal immigration . . . versus the opinions of the people who have voted for them for many years.
Dearest Senator Lugar:
I have been a long time supporter of yours and voted for you for every election. Your support of the amnesty bill has frankly been one of the worst decisions of your political career.
We need to enforce the existing immigration laws. We cannot give amnesty to 12 million ILLEGAL immigrants. We need a separate bill that just addresses securing our borders, plus enforcing the existing immigration laws. It’s common sense. Once we have curtailed the influx of new illegal immigrants, we can address what to do with the current 12 million illegal aliens that snuck into our country.
I live in a town of over 70,000 residents in Indiana and am very involved with local politics. I’m a member of the Town Advisory Committee, a graduate of the Town Government Academy, and also support local Republicans 100 percent. However, I cannot and will not support your next campaign for re-election. In fact, I will do everything I can to make sure you are not re-elected.
As this is such an important issue, I have recently started a website: www.saynotoillegalimmigration.com
As a side note, the fact that Senator Bayh (D) voted against closure and you voted for it, is amazing and disgusting at the same time. I rarely agree with Senator Bayh and have never voted for a Democrat. But he actually listens to 70% of the country (or probably 90% of Hoosiers) and I will consider voting for him, and whoever your opponent is, next election.
This is by no means a “threatening email”. I am writing to you so you will hopefully realize that the majority of Americans do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants.
I urge you to make enforcing our existing immigration laws, and securing our borders, your top priority during the rest of your tenure as Senator.
Lastly, I sell capital industrial equipment to basically every industrial plant in Indiana. Over five years ago I would go into these plants and see legal Americans: black, white, Asian, Mexican, etc working hard to earn a living. The past several years things have changed dramatically. I go into these plants now and the majority of the employees are illegal immigrants who cannot speak English. This is the case in every poultry plant in Indiana, plus most of the plants in Frankfort, Fort Wayne, Muncie, Fishers, Indianapolis, Evansville, Logansport and many other town and cities in our state. I could check our customer database and list at least one hundred plants where this is the case. Snack food plants, general food plants, chemical plants, metal working plants, aggregate plants, packaging facilities, basically every industrial plant in our state.
I don’t know often you frequent fast food restaurants in Indiana, but nearly every employee is an illegal immigrant. The McDonald’s in our town used to have all white and black legal employees. Single mothers, teenagers, retired people and others who do not have a college degree and need to earn a decent living. Today this is the exact opposite. You go to basically any McDonalds in Indiana and they are filled with illegal immigrant employees. You must start a program to check these manufacturing plants and restaurants to confirm they are hiring legal Americans.
My question to you is this: Did all of the legal residents of Indiana who used to work these jobs magically find better paying jobs?
I’ll answer the question for you. They were replaced by illegal aliens that are willing to work for less money, more hours, and under worse conditions. Where are the legal residents working now? My guess is that many of them are using unemployment benefits, welfare, food stamps and other social programs which cost our state millions of dollars. I won’t even go into how many illegal immigrants are getting free benefits from our tax dollars when they should not and do not deserve them.
They came here illegally! This is a huge burden on our economic system, our health care system, our schools and many other facets of Indiana.
This is not just an issue for California, Texas and the other large states near the border. This is dramatically affecting our State of Indiana for the worse.
I urge you to listen to the people who voted for you and do all you can to secure our borders and enforce our existing immigration laws.
A sincere thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts.

Good point about all of the jobs lost to illegal immigrants. There is no way that all of the former employees of these places from five years ago found better jobs - not all of them. It’s hurting US!
To Mr. Richard Lugar Senator.
I am a naturalized american citizen. I am very concern about the issues that concern the immigrants. This nation has always been good and kind. Our troops men and women are fighting in Iraq freeing the people who were under Saddam Hussein rein of terror. They are trying to protect our country. But when I see day after day how our own goverment have become a terrorist to me is worse than Saddam. Terrorising innocent people, whose only crime is to try to survive and have a chance to a better life. I know how it feels to be prosecuted, This is what this country is doing terrorising people phsycological torture.
Many childre and people are bein traumatize wondering if my love one goes to work is it coming back? The children are being abandond when parents are rounded up like animals. Now you see who is the terrorist.
Many of these people had work so hard for every little thing they posses, just to lose everything when they are deported.
Stop this withc hunt against immigrants.
Thank you
Elvia Reyes
First, let me commend you on an excellent blog and letter to Senator Lugar! We need more people like you who see a problem and take action.
I don’t know if you’re aware of our organization but Indiana Federation for Immigration Reform and Enforcement has been around for several years now. I thought you might be interested in a nasty encounter several ladies from IFIRE recently had with Lugar’s staff. You can read about it on our forum here: http://ifire.org/php_bbbb/viewtopic.php?t=847&highlight=lugar
